Criminals on the Prowl!

Like past years, we have witnessed a series of crimes during this Ramadhan month, but, yet the Home Ministry had never learnt the lessons of the past. Criminals could just rob and murder people in broad daylight and the fear of police presence and other law enforcement agencies were not there. This is because criminals know very well that police will not be present when the strike and that by the time police came, they would already be miles away! Criminals know the time to strike as during Ramadhan the enforcement agencies were always weak.

On the news on Monday included the robbery and murder of Mdm. Thor Jee Lee, the wife of Lai Chew Hock, the former Bukit Tambun Assemblyman. This was then followed by the robbery on Datin Chang Lee Lee, the wife of Datuk Dr. Teng Hock Nan, the Penang Gerakan Chairman.

In Sarawak, three armed robbers were shot dead last night while two of their accomplices escaped with gun shots in Rambungan. Thanks to Sarawak police and it was lucky the police came in time because the criminals took a bit of their suit time to act. Not only that, security in offices were also lacking in Ramadhan. This saw government exhibits in two graft cases involving a sum of about RM40,000.00 kept by the Anti- Corruption Agency in Sibu were discovered stolen on September 15, 2008.

Why this happened? The Home Ministry must find the answer and the answer had already been given, but, despite answers given, the authorities still had failed to take proactive steps to overcome the problem. Here we have to remind the Home Ministry again that the police and the public are again crying for more manpower and patrols in the streets. The Home Ministry must also know that during Ramadhan, most police officers would be too weak to carry out their daily routine because most of them being muslims were fasting.

Therefore, the month of Ramadhan was always the best time for criminals to strike! Nowadays, in the Police Force, we hardly could find Chinese, Indians and other races in the Police Force. Why? Are Chinese, Indians and youths of other races not interested to become policemen? Then, why in China, Hongkong, Singapore, and Taiwan, there were Chinese policemen and in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, we got Indian Policemen? Seems funny to me?

Given this unbalanced racial population in the Police Force, it was just good time for criminals to take advantage of and we could not blame criminals from taking advantage of this, but, we need to put this blame on the Home Ministry.

We cannot say that the Home Ministry is not aware of these weaknesses, but, after Ramadhan this will soon be forgotten. Come again next year, we will also face the same situation.

So wake up, before security situation becomes weaker.

HOW MANY YEARS BACK THE HOME MINISTRY HAS BEEN SELFISH OF GIVING THE FAIR TREAT TO OTHER RACES IN P.D.R.M? THAT'S THE REASON WHY WE CAN'T SEE MUCH DIFFERENT RACES IN STEAD OF THEM ALL MOSTLY ARE MALAY, IF THE HOME MINISTRY HAVE FAILED TO IMPLEMENT THE "FAIR" AND "PROPER" SECURITY CONCEPT FOR MALAYSIAN AFTER MANY YEARS AGO, THEN I THINK THE NEW HOME MINISTER NEEDS TO BE RE-ELECTED.

You seems didn't follow what we did, but, fired us point blank. See and read the Hansards and actions taken by us only then you know what we raised in the Dewan and in the local press. You may also know better if you had followed the many of our attendances at the police Stations. Yesterday I was also in Sg. Maong POlice Station over some police reports lodged by a victim of my Batu Lintang Consituency due to inaction by the police.

Not only DAP, myself or BN YBs were concerned of security situation, but, it was a matter of much concern of everybody. Most people spoke and grumbled about it. IF any person or agency is to be blamed, the BN government being the trustees of the people in handling public security should take the responsibility or be blamed for the security situation in the country.Blame the police? Think twice, before you do this. Police could also be responsible or be blamed, but, not so much! The could only be blamed if polices not implemented and powers given to them not exercised property or been exercised at all.

All problems and answers to the problem had been given to the BN government. It was just like a test, where the questions and answers had been given, but, just copy the answers down in the examination papers. Meaning that, the BN government only need to implement what had been suggested by politicians and the public. I myself, being an ex-police officer used to speak at length on this matter in the Dewan, but, like you being a retired officer, I am a common citizen, have no guns and power to patrol the streets and no officers under me for my disposal. If you can supply the manpower and also if the law still allows me to do arrest and conduct investigations, I am too happy not only to help the people in Batu Lintang, but, at any places that may require my services and presence.

So friend, look and analyse at what people are doing before you fire, else, you may fire a wrong target and lose a precious bullet. To tell you, many including those in the BN went to criticize the PM, but, although I am in the Opposition, I for one had yet to bluntly criticize the PM because I could see what the PM had done so far. PM was painted as weak and not protecting the malays, but, to me PM was a very patient man, with the thoughts of every citizen as Malaysians, not malays, not dayaks and not chinese! The reason that I restrained myself from ever bluntly criticised the PM is because there were too many rotten heads around him. Not unless these rotten heads been removed, PM will always be surrounded with problems created by these people in which the PM had inherited from the Mahathir administration. With too many rotten heads around, no leader in this world could work well and lead the team under his command!

Dear YB Voon,

Regarding the lack of non-malay policeman in PDRM is indeed crystal clear. We can see that most policemen in overwhelmingly chinese majority areas are malays. Why isn't there any change? I beg to differ from the views given by teo saying that PDRM is not giving fair treatment to all races. In my opinion the reason behind this is due to the low pay that one receives if one were to be a policeman. This by virtue might not be well accepted by the non-malay community of which is more prone to commerce and businesses. Therefore YB, why don't you propose a better payscale for our cops so that they will serve better? I'm not ridiculing any cops regarding their pay but their earnings in my point of view can barely make ends meet. That's why corruption are so rampant and the drive to serve is not there. Do you agree with me? Hope to hear from you soon.

p.s :I do agree with you regarding the rotten heads although I am pro government. Cheers YB!

Our country is starting a downward spiral when we need to be strong due to the current global climate. Unity in Diversity is what is needed now.

Teo & Troy,
Like many others, both of you are very concerned about police and security in our society. Thanks for that. Security matter affects each and everyone of us but I regret that the BN government still failed to adequately address the problem. If we talked about pay for policemen, their pay has been increased not long ago and another increase has been approved. This I was told when I met an old friend during the recent DUN Sitting 3-12 November, 2008 who himself is a very senior police office told me that there will be further increase in salary soon. Assistant COmmissioner of Police at this moment, I was told receive more than RM10,000.00 per month. Chief Inspectors, a few thousand ringgit per month. Its quite a huge salary compared to the time I was still in the Force. He also lamented the lack of promotion for chinese officers and also the lack of interest among the chinese youths to join the police force. There must be reasons for this. However, from what I gathered is that many were not called to attend the interviews and so how could they be selected to join the Force.
